Based in the Malton area just North of York, in the beautiful countryside of Ryedale, Environmental Art produce a wide range of furniture and craft products.

We are a circular design and manufacture creating products and supplying services for more sustainable living. In our work we also hope to educate and inspire people into living, enjoying and working in a sustainable way.

All our products are handmade as locally as possible, to ensure the quality and help us further promote sustainability, local talent and reduce the carbon footprint of each product.

We can also offer a restoration and upholstery service for that piece of furniture that needs a little bit of love!

Environmental Art

Textiles tutor and designer/maker with a love of all things colourful and shiny.  Blessed with the patience of a saint, I enjoy knitting, crochet, darning and spinning. 

Hermione Crowe

Ever wondered how to get from sheep fleece to ball of yarn? Learn how to hand spin wool from our Textiles expert Hermione. You will learn how to spin using a drop spindle as well as information and guidance on fibre, ply, twist and dying your yarn at home using natural dyes. 
We are unable to provide refreshments at this time and highly recommend bringing your favourite beverage and a sweet snack for maximum enjoyment!

Hand Spinning Yarn

Ever wanted to learn to knit, or in need of a refresher? In this class we will cover casting on, knitting, purling, garter stitch, stockinette stitch, increases, decreases and casting off. All materials are included in the price. 
Unfortunately we are unable to provide refreshments at the moment, but please bring a beverage and a sweet snack for optimum enjoyment.

Learn to Knit

Half day

This workshop is ideal for knitters who are confident with the basic casting on, knit and purl stitches, and are looking for an interesting lightweight project perfect for taking on your travels! In this class you will learn how to knit in the round, create a rib, form a gusset, turn a heel, pick up stitches, shape a toe and how to graft with Kitchener stitch to create your very own pair of cozy socks.
All materials provided (intermediate level)
Unfortunately, due to COVID regulations, we are unable to provide refreshments so please bring a packed lunch. We also recommend bringing a flask of your favorite beverage and cake for ultimate enjoyment!

Knit a Pair of Socks

Ever wanted to learn the basic skills you need to crochet? This is the perfect class for you! We will cover how to form foundation chains, slip stitch, double, half-treble, treble and double-treble stitches. We will also learn how to read a pattern and how to create a Granny Square. 
All meterials are provided. (Beginner level class)
Unfortunately, due to COVID regulations, we are unable to provide refreshments so please  bring a packed lunch. We also recommend a flask of your favorite beverage and some cake for optimum enjoyment!

Learn to Crochet

Darning is an eco-friendly way to repair your clothes, helping them to avoid landfill and preserving a fabric you love. It is a low and therapeutic embroidery process that strengthens your clothes while adding a decorative element. You can either bring along something to mend or we can provide all the materials so that you can learn this hand embroidery technique. 
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide you with hot beverages or snacks, but we recommend bringing along a flask of your favourite beverage and sweet treat as well as packed lunch for optimum enjoyment!
